It is SO interesting to see how paint colors shift from year to year. OK, I’m a paint color aficionado, so this fascinates me probably more than the average person 🙂
I LOVE to analyze the subtle and major color moves from year to year and share what I see with YOU.
There are little tweaks in color undertones shifting paint colors ever so slightly, until there are major color changes.
Over the course of about 5 to 7 years, we see brand new colors emerge that influence the paint colors you’ll choose for your walls and home decor.
You’ll start to look around at your home and think hmmm my room looks dated for some reason. If you painted it over 5 years ago, that’s why.

2024 Green Paint Color Trends
Following the pandemic and the craving to live life outdoors, GREEN became THE color of the year.
All of the major paint manufacturers chose a shade of green with gray undertones for their primary paint color of the year in 2022.
Green isn’t going anywhere and is expanding to include bright yellow greens and deep forest greens.

The undertone is moving toward yellow and bright olives, but the green paint colors that lean toward gray are going to be easier for most consumers to use.
Love the pop of yellow green, but don’t want to paint an entire room? Try painting a piece of furniture or buying one in this uplifting color instead!
Evergreen Fog was the paint color of the year in 2022 and is still going strong!
2024 Red, Coral and Pink Paint Color trends
In 2023 ,Redend Point paint color of the year led the way to muted clay based earth tones along with warmer shades of red.

Red is growing in importance and again points back in time to the mid 90’s! Trends keep circling back .Used sparingly as an accent it’s a great option.
Then we are going back even further into the 80’s with coral and apricot. We’ll see how this plays out in home interiors in 2024 to 2025.
2024 Whites and Neutrals Paint Color trends
As I was reviewing the paint color trends, what kept jumping out is that a crisp COOL white is central to interior design in 2024.
Its paired with warm and cool undertone paint colors from pale pastels to deeply saturated colors.
A bright white is the perfect complement to bring a high level of light reflection into a space when combined with a dark paint color.
Neutral paint colors in 2024 range from white to greige and then to deeply saturated browns.
Sorry, but COOL GRAY is DEAD as a paint color trend. Instead choose grays that have WARM undertones for your interior design projects.

What’s new in neutral 2024 paint colors is YELLOW undertone browns and whites.

My sunroom has been SW Humble Gold for 20 years. I love it…it’s warm, sunny and uplifting. Gray be damned. And all other trends for that matter. I use paint colors that work with my colors and that I love. While I find all these trends interesting, I am so glad the over saturation of Gray is going bye bye. Use what you love.
