2024 Colormix Forecast: Anthology
Let’s take a quick look back at the important 2024 paint color trends from the Sherwin-Williams Colormix® Forecast.
Anthology consisted of 4 major color palettes, segmented by color categories:
- Blues & Greens: Emphasizes serene, nature-inspired shades that are both soothing and energizing.
- Reds & Purples: Delves into a vibrant spectrum of warm reds, gentle blushes, and purples balanced with earthy, clay-like tones.
- Deeps & Darks: Showcases rich, dramatic colors ideal for adding contrast and creating a cozy, restful ambiance.
- Delicate Tints: Focuses on soft, elegant hues that bring a touch of subtle sophistication to any space.
Since 2022, purple emerged as a hot new shade. My bet is we will be seeing more plum, dusty purple, lilac and violet in home decor in 2024.

After analyzing Sherwin-Williams palettes for 2025 and comparing them to 2024, here are the paint colors I predict will be the hot new trends in home decor.
Many of these paint trends are inspired by modern rustic (also known as rustic chic) and what we once called modern farmhouse design.
The vibrant colors are nods to the 1950s, reminiscent of retro diners and classic SMEG appliances. For more on the colorful and eclectic kitchen trend, check out this article.
And the ’80s and early ’90s are making a comeback, bringing back dusty pinks, peaches, mauves, and burgundy.

- Neutrals are warm and earthy with shades of beige dominating.

Scroll any social media platform and you will see warm neutrals filling your feed. Gone are the days of cool gray rooms. Shades of white, greige, and beige are timeless.
Warm neutral paint colors create a cozy environment, but pay attention to the paint color undertones – they matter!
Make sure to choose neutrals that blend with your existing furniture and flooring finishes.

Best Blue and Green 2025 Paint Colors
Who doesn’t love a beautiful nature based blue or green? The greens this year have a crispness to them that is beatiful.
The blues range from light to dark with gray and green undertones. The deep colors are PERFECT for cabinets or dark and moody rooms.
Upward was Sherwin Williams pick for 2024 paint color of the year and this year it carried forward. It’s the MOST beautiful soft chambray blue.

Best Burgundy, Red and Plum 2025 Paint Colors
There is NO denying that this is the HOTTES new color palette in 2025!
Deep burgundy, bright red and rich cabernet looks so NEW in these rooms. Pair these colors with neutrals for the perfect on trend room.
I LOVE how Rockweed is used as an accent mixed with Creamy adding a level of sophistication and elegance. How pretty is it with gold finishes?

Skip These 2025 Paint Color Trends
I mean this when I say it…please don’t be offended when I am telling you to skip one of the paint colors for 2025.
Color is so PERSONAL and I definitely lean toward certain types of colors. So this is a guide not the rule.
Go with what you love and works with your style and decor 🙂
2025 Paint Color Trends to Avoid
- Outdated Colors Making a Comeback
- Overly Bright Hues That Overwhelm
OK Chartreuse, Persimmon and Quilt Gold I’m looking at you! Yes, I know these used to be popular decades ago, but just no. Don’t use them.
Many of the paint colors have too much chroma (aka too bright and saturated). A paint color that is too vibrant isn’t good for any space other than maybe a candy store – not even a kids bedroom.
Colors that are too bright are overstimulating and overwhelm everything in the room. If you love one of these colors, use it on a chair as a pop of color (just sayin).
Choose the Right Paint Colors for Your Home
Color trends are fun to track, but my advice is always choose a color that works with your interior design vision.
Play off the other elements in the space or room, along with the natural light to find the perfect paint color (take my free paint color quick class).

- Test Colors in Different Lighting
- Start with a Feature Wall or Furniture
Some of the really bright and dark colors may be hard to live with long term. You can see even in the Sherwin Williams rooms they use some of the newer colors in these categories as accents and not on the walls.

My comment is being offered as (Discernment rather than Judgemental), a writing of the feelings from observing the colors and related color palettes.
The trend generally all seem to share a tilt towards:
green-blue base and mauve base influences, and the color pallets seem to be one door over from the idea of pastels. As my mother would say:
“Quite Ole-lady’ish”. They take me back to the School House days when every wall, in every room and hallway was painted that certain shade of Industrial Green, a lighter mid tone green that was drab with a pinch of depressing.
Again, I can only offer my perspective, and am doing so from “Conscious in Thought” + “Applying Higher Mind” (Discernment rather than Judgemental) on the subject, just speaking/writing the “Feelings and Perspective”.
They feel restrictive, forced, lacking in freedom.
I can reach back to some earlier years and grab a Coral or Caliente Red, a Deep Blueberry, or Charcoal/Soft Black, or a Fresh Green-Yellow, Mild “Greige”, and a Soft White Trio, building my own pallet.
My energy is just in another place. I can’t feel positive about a series that reminds me of a sort of “aged Easter Eggs”.
I hope the Creative minds in the business of Paint Colors for Decor really aren’t there either.
