My trend analysis revealed there is a new standard for neutral paint colors. I’m calling this paint color trend: The New Neutrals.

Are neutral paint colors still on trend in 2024?
Following the pandemic bright, bold and very dark saturated paint colors emerged as new trends.
We as a culture were looking to feel happy or like we were in a cocoon of safety, driving these new choices.
So you may be wondering, if I choose a neutral paint color will my interior design still be “in”?
Heck yeah! Shades of white, off-white, and cream will never go out of style…they will just shift in undertone, with new warm or cool tones.
That’s why it’s important, before trying to find a new color, to do a little search of the current paint trends.
Are gray paint colors in or out for 2024?
Let’s start with the number one question I get asked about and that is GRAY. Is it in or out?
In my 2021 cabinet paint color trends, I announced GRAY is out! Ok, it was for dramatic effect.
The truth is I could see cool grays beginning to leave interior design starting in 2020. That’s when they hit their tipping point in popularity and now 4 years later they are about gone.

What replaced cool grays? WARM grays or what has now been coined the term “greige”.
If you love gray paint colors and want to use one in your home, choose options that have a red or orange undertone to make them warmer.

My friends who lived through the 80’s, yes many of these paint colors we would consider BEIGE.
If you were wondering, the warmer toned neutrals are back and Beige is definitely a trending paint color and for cabinets too in 2024.

Ah white! A classic that never goes out of style, but in truth as the trends change white paint colors emerge with new undertones.
Whites can be a challenge for sure because the come in a wide variety of color tints and warm, cool and neutral undertones.

The new whites are quite interesting in 2024 because they are varied in tints and undertones.
That’s good news because it makes choosing a white paint color that is on trend a little easier!

Deep Paint Colors: The NEW Neutrals in 2024
What, Tracey? Deep paint colors are a new neutral? You bet they are!
In my overview of the 2024 paint colors of the year, I go into depth about deep paint colors.
Which color do I think will be the most popular color in 2024? Definitely any shade of dark brown or soft charcoal. Why is that?
It takes 2 to 3 years for paint color trends to take hold and become mainstream in consumer’s homes. That’s when they become acceptable and not “trend colors”.

In 2021, Sherwin Williams announced Urbane Bronze as the color of the year. This is THE original deep paint color that is now influencing paint color interior design trends in 2024.
Deep paint colors in the right setting can be bold and dramatic. The perfect backdrop for a wide variety of wood tones.
But BE CAREFUL using low light reflectivity paint colors! They can be a disaster in a small room without a lot of light.
You see how I’ve used them above to highlight colors within tiles and make them pop!
They can quickly close in a space and make it feel depressing absorbing all the light!
