Are you searching for trending paint colors, BUT want the color to be timeless, classic and long lasting?
Paint colors start to look dated after 7 years. That’s probably why you are here…craving a paint color change because something feels off.
Sorry to say even the timeless paint colors that feel classic when you put them on the walls, start to shift and change in undertone, value and hue every 5 to 7 years. With BIG shifts happening every 10 years.
This year there are beautiful paint colors to choose from, but what’s a safe bet you ask? Luckily for you I’m a paint color and trend expert, but also like CLASSIC home decor versus following the trends.
The GOOD news is paint colors really do have a long life cycle! When you’re ready to paint or repaint, starting with a trending color is a smart decision.

What makes a paint color timeless or classic?
I’m going to let you in on a little secret. All of the paint manufacturers have an historic color palette that is available every year.
That’s because there are certain paint colors that are used over and over no matter what the trends are.
Many of these historic colors date back 100’s of years! The colors definitely aren’t “trendy”, but are easy to use despite the year on the calendar.
Tested by time, every hue of our historically precise palettes has a graceful, nostalgic appeal all its own.

Not all historic colors will feel on trend however. I felt it was important to expose you to these color palettes, so you know there are time honored paint colors from every era.
Eventually, our century will be comprised of “historic” paint colors. Strange to think about 100 years from now that one of my paint color picks will be “historic” LOL.
You are probably thinking “What about white, Tracey?” White technically is a non-color, but of course white is timeless and classic.
These paint colors are classic and can be used without fail or worry regardless of the trends.
However, be aware each decade colors change just a bit in value (light or dark) and in undertone. That’s how they fall out of favor or “trend”.
Plus some paint colors just fall out of favor and are replaced by the color of the year. That doesn’t mean those colors aren’t ones you should use!
I’ll share what versions of these colors are on trend but timeless, for this year and beyond.
What paint colors will we associate with this decade?
I’m sad to report…not much color at all. Of course I’m being a tad bit dramatic, but take a look around.
Shades of gray dominated for years and now greige. If you look at my 2024 and 2025 trend paint color reports you’ll see how prevalent greige, beige and white are now.
Plus paint colors have become more saturated and dark making them reflect very little light.
Paint colors that will be associated with our decade:
The 80’s and 90’s were full of color and those decades are influencing fashion and home decor. Maybe before we hit 2030 color will be BACK!
