Do you LOVE the look of tan woven wicker from Target and want your other wood outdoor furniture to match?

That’s exactly what I wanted to do in order to match an outdoor wood bench with my Target woven chairs on my front porch.

After some playing around with layers of paint, I found the perfect combination to create a faux tan wicker finish!

This technique can be used on any wood furniture indoor our outdoor.

It’s a great beginner faux paint finish only requiring 2 paint colors and a remarkable before and after.

Tan Wicker Furniture Color Match

Since I am Porch Daydreamer, my outdoor spaces are obviously important to me!

Plus I LOVE to create “wood look” faux paint finishes too.

There isn’t anything I won’t paint and a couple of seasons ago I spray painted my dark brown resin wicker furniture tan.

Prior to that I created an outdoor driftwood finish on my porch swing, for a super coastal feel.

This season I decided I’d lived with the large sectional for enough years and wanted something smaller to fit the porch.

I searched high and low for the right sized sofa or love seat in the same wicker finish as the woven chairs, but didn’t find anything in the right size or budget.

What I did find was the perfect sized bench in the WRONG color!

Plus it was SO affordable perfect for my budget friendly update.

My old sectional was donated the day I found the bench!

You can see that it definitely wasn’t going to coordinate with the tan wicker finish or the driftwood swing.

Off I went for inspiration to find the colors I wanted to mimic by creating a faux tan wicker finish.

Target outdoor furniture comes in the prettiest tan finishes, so I stared at them a bit plus my own chair finish.

What I realized is I needed to combine a couple of paint colors to create the depth of the woven finishes.

Practicing on a sample board, I came up with a BEAUTIFUL and easy to create faux tan wicker paint finish anyone can paint themselves.

How-to Paint a Faux Tan Wicker Paint Finish

Since this bench has SO much detail, the best option for the solid color was a spray paint.

If you want to hand paint a similar deep brown because you don’t have a space to spray, I recommend a match within the tutorial.

Notes

  • Always thoroughly shake spray primer and paint prior to application,
  • Try to apply spray paint when it is overcast, so it doesn't dry too quickly.
  • If you want to hand apply, you can use a general purpose canned primer as well. I always prime before I paint for better adhesion and to avoid any stain bleed through.
  • The best color match to the Nutmeg spray paint is Sherwin Williams, Baked Cookie, 9098.
  • PAY ATTENTION TO RECOAT TIMES if you use another brand of primer or paint.

My hope is you feel like this is an EASY finish to recreate at your home.

It really goes quickly other than waiting between coats of paint, but I just would set a timer and do something else in between.

I LOVE how the entire porch looks now and the bench is the perfect size and now color!

The bench matches the wicker perfectly and blends in with the rest of the furniture for a soft neutral look.

If you like the cushions I added to the bench, they are 18 x 18 inches.

You can purchase the white seat cushions here and make sure to measure your furniture!
