Boring BEIGE Tile Bathroom Makeover

Do you have a beige tile bathroom and can’t afford a remodel, but want to make it lighter?

Me too! I am going to do a full paint makeover including the shower tile and granite counter. Wow, right?

Do you have a bathroom that looks like mine, with beige tile on the shower walls and on the floor?

This was very popular in the mid-2000’s and now looks dated. Ugh.

Not only do I have large beige tiles, but also had decision fatigue when I built this house in 2008.

This is my guest bathroom, so I went with safe yet boring BROWN tile, granite and yes even the vanity stain.

Plus painted the walls beige too! After making over my guest bedroom in the cottagecore style, the ensuite bathroom sticks out like a poop colored sore thumb.

Since I am the Queen of Painting Everything, I’m going to do a full paint makeover to save money and this space!

Beige Guest Bathroom

When I tell you that this bathroom is getting a head to toe makeover it is.

Bye-bye beige tile, granite and bad reddish stain. This is going to be a major budget makeover.

Let’s look at the before pictures of this brown bathroom, so we can go through the updates.

For my regular readers, yes I have been hiding this beauty from you!

All of the large format tile from the ceiling to the floor is the same beige ceramic tile.

It looks really similar to what I recently removed during the primary bathroom remodel.

Luxury Hotel Bathroom Makeover

After remodeling this bathroom, I know what is possible when you remove all that beige tile!

It is definitely time for a serious update of the guest bathroom to make it brighter and lighter.

Paint is the perfect solution and a budget friendly option for this makeover.

Beige Bathroom Makeover Plan

Literally, I know how to paint everything and this is going to be a project that is going to use ALL of my painting expertise!

If you are new here, I have an ACT (Architectural Coating Technologist Certification) and also worked in the paint industry for years launching new paint technologies.

Not only do I know how-to paint, but also the science behind it!

Let’s dive into all that is getting a paint makeover. Some of this may surprise you 🙂

Guest Bathroom Paint Plan

  1. Beige shower tile walls and floor
  2. Granite counter
  3. Bathroom vanity
  4. Bathroom walls
  5. Mirror from my attic

What am I doing to the floors? Peel and stick tile!

Seriously after all of that painting I need to do something different on the floors.

I’ve got a ton of experience with peel and stick tile, contact paper counters, and wallpaper.

The traditional black and white check peel and stick tile will be a great change from all that beige!

But Tracey, we want to know about the painted shower tiles!!

I’ve been posting the progress of painting the tiles on Instagram and people are going crazy about it.

They want to know my process and when I tell you it’s more than a process, it’s a PROTOCOL and serious business.

I’m planning on offering a paint class on painting shower tile soon!

Painting Shower Tiles and Granite

This is going to be an EXTREME makeover with paint.

What’s nice is the products I am using for the shower will also be used for painting the granite counter too.

The most exciting piece is that I am also going to create faux marble veining on both the shower and the granite.

inspiration for painted faux marble shower tiles:

If you aren’t up for painting, this is a VERY affordable option for showers plus labor.

You can buy a kit that’s around $800 to trim out a shower with a Carrara White Panel Shower Wall Surround. It goes right over the tile.

The paint for creating a painted faux marble effect will be just over $100 and will be used for two projects.

Oh yeah plus my sweat equity. See what a bargain makeover this will be?

Oh wow, this is embarrassing!

I’m using a gallon of paint I already have for the walls (Sherwin Williams, Pure White) to save even more money.

Once I get the shower completed, I’ll decide if I will create a white marble counter or a gray marble counter with paint.

I’m leaning toward gray for the contrast and no idea on the vanity color yet.

At the time I built the house, I ran out of money in this room and went cheap with the lights and used an old mirror.

Progress Lighting, who is a long time sponsor of mine, is providing a new vanity light!

It all makes me cringe now! So onward and upward.

  1. Following you on Instagram and looking forward to the reveal. Soooooo many people are going to be talking about this because who wants to spend thousands of dollars on a bathroom when you aren’t changing the footprint.
My home is 50 years old and I did paint my vanities and had new tops and faucets installed but I would love to do something to the main bathroom with it’s lovely brown tub:)

    1. Hi, Deb! Thank you for following me. I just went into the bathroom the 2nd coat of paint on the shower tile dried overnight and WOW is all I can say. I’m so excited to finish I can’t sleep thinking about it!
