As we ring in 2018, with it comes new home decor trends! Design bloggers have quite a lot of influence over trends that we try in our own homes.
What makes Design Bloggers different from other home decor trend influencers like magazines and catalogs, is that they are posting daily to our Instagram and Pinterest feeds with beautiful design ideas.
The 2018 home decor trends solidified by Design Bloggers feel more accessible. You and I can easily try them by shopping at our local home decor stores and online to get a similar look at an affordable price. What bloggers do differently, than a glossy magazine, is regularly TEACH and SHOW you how to get the look and where to buy it!

A Wow Wall
Some may call this a feature wall, but literally you will say “Wow!” when you see how these rooms are defined by one wall. Whether accomplished with a hand painted design, wallpaper, or a mural one wall says it all!

Dark and Moody Rooms
Deep, rich and bold colors with layers of luxurious textures in artwork, rugs, and textiles bring this look to life. You just want to curl up and sip an Old Fashion cocktail in these rooms.

Colored Cabinets and Tone on Tone
It’s looking like the home decor trend of all white rooms is going to lose focus in 2018. Color is not only on walls, in textiles, but also on cabinets. The next layer of this trend is to paint the walls the same color of the cabinets either in white or another color.
I am a BIG fan of this and wrote an article Don’t Paint Your Cabinets White! and even incorporated navy colored cabinets in my office makeover REVEAL: Taking the Man Out of the Man Cave.
Not that I was following or setting a decor trend, but more doing what I love like these other designers 🙂

Natural Elements with Tribal Accents
Chunky woven baskets, pillows, and throws or faux fur create a natural vibe that is a sophisticated trade up from boho chic of the past. Tribal or batik prints add contrast to the natural elements, with pale stained wood, and pops of leather accents to round out the mix.

Everyday Velvet
You can’t avoid seeing velvet in new rooms being designed today. It’s become an accepted day-to-day fabric that can be incorporated in an eclectic mix of design style. In pillows, drapery or upholstery this velvet home decor trend is everywhere.

Maybe I’m not into trendy decor (although I’m sure farmhouse was once trendy), but I can do without the “wow” walls and dark and moody rooms. A nice feature wall is lovely, but these seem a bit over the top. But I do admit that the two~colored cabinet paint treatments are stunning as well as the use of velvet. A million years ago I had a huge brown velvet tuxedo sofa and it was so luxurious. Velvet does hav such a rich look and feel. Great job of showing what we’ll be looking at this year.

Hi! Carol, I am not trendy either and like a more classic decor for day to day living. A tuxedo sofa – wow, I love those and it must have been gorgeous in brown velvet. Glad you enjoyed the recap 🙂 I am staring at my dining room now thinking tone on tone for the wainscoting trim and walls. We will see!
