NEW Interior Design Sample Resource: Why I’m Obsessed with DesignShop

If you’ve ever felt paralyzed by all the choices when decorating your home (hello, overwhelm) I understand! Starting a room makeover and seeing samples in your space BEFORE you buy, is SO important.

Having the right samples on hand can make all the difference in making your design dreams a reality.

But sourcing all of those physical samples typically involves driving all over town (hoping to find them in stock) or waiting weeks for samples to be delivered.

This post is a paid collaboration with DesignShop. All content and opinions are my own 🙂

I JUST found out about the newly launched online sample source DesignShop. DesignShop lets you see, feel, and compare interior design samples from the comfort of your own home.

All with OVERNIGHT shipping of real physical samples. What? No more running from store to store to source paint, countertops, tile, etc. I HAD to try it out!

Contains hand selected products, with affiliate marketing links where I may earn a small commission if a purchase is made. {full disclosure here}

The OLD Way of Sourcing Interior Design Samples

Let’s be honest – the typical way of gathering samples for a home makeover project is exhausting. Think about it, if you’re planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel you’ll need to visit:

  • Paint store for swatches.
  • Countertop supplier to check out materials like quartz or granite.
  • Tile store to choose backsplash options.
  • Kitchen and bath showroom for cabinet finishes and hardware.
  • Home improvement store for flooring.
  • Favorite accessory retailer for area rugs and lighting.

You’re driving all over town, spending hours in traffic, juggling multiple store locations hoping they have the samples you need in stock.

Let’s not forget gas money, parking headaches, and the time spent waiting for someone to help you. There is a NEW and better way with DesignShop.

Need interior design samples fast? From tile to flooring, paint samples to fabrics, DesignShop delivers them to your door OVERNIGHT!

Order Physical Design Samples Online: DesignShop

Let’s test out a new way of collecting design samples using the online service DesignShop. I decided to create a Modern European kitchen design to see how the process works.

While the samples themselves aren’t free, you save TIME which is money in my book. Shipping is free if you spend $30 or more. They even include Samplize paint samples, which are made of REAL paint and are peel-and-stick. You can move them around your room without dealing with messy paint testers.

Let’s see if I can find what I need for my interior design vision online. I love that you can touch, feel, and see everything in your actual lighting before committing. Because let’s face it—colors look very different in a store versus your home.

Choosing paint colors just got easier!

Porch Daydreamer® paint color collection of color accurate, movable, peel and stick paint samples from the best brands.

WOW! Instead of spending an entire weekend on the road collecting samples, I was able to order everything from the comfort of my couch, snuggled up in a throw, with the fire flickering in the background. Nice right?

The samples were packaged neatly and securely in a fun box, with cards and QR codes showing the details of everything I ordered. What a nice way to keep samples organized for a project. Being able to see the tones and colors in the quartz counter, tile and flooring was so HELPFUL!

Product photos typically look different online not showing the true colors. I found that was the case especially with the hardwood flooring. It looked much darker than the sample provided which was a pretty soft driftwood (which I liked).

The Cambria quartz countertop samples were a little smaller than I’d like, but definitely a good way to see the overall look and feel of the pattern. If you like the physical sample, it’s easy to test them out using DesignShop’s Visualizer – I cover that in detail later.

NOTE: Since you have to pay for the samples, make sure when looking at the plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware to only order the FINISHES you want to see. I wasted money on ordering 2 pieces of hardware in the same finish – rookie mistake!

Seeing the larger sized wallpaper samples was a huge plus. It made it easier to decide on my favorite one and choose the best paint colors to match. Now I want to redecorate my kitchen and use this wallpaper 🙂

The whole experience was seamless from end to end! Easy ordering experience and FAST delivery. My samples were large enough to help me make decisions and help my Modern European Kitchen design come to life.

Find Your Dream Style: Shoppable Room Inspiration

Do you ever scroll through Pinterest, save a ton of gorgeous rooms, but then wonder, “Okay, now what?” That’s where DesignShop’s Shoppable Room Inspiration comes in to save the day.

Picture this: You browse their curated rooms (which are so beautifully styled, you’ll want to move right in), and then click to shop what you see.

It’s like having a personal stylist for your home. Whether you’re into modern minimalism, cozy farmhouse vibes, or bold pops of color, you’ll find rooms that feel like you.

Plus, you can click to  shop directly from their links to recreate the look in your own space without a million tabs open.

If you ever have a question about the room or materials, just open the ever present chat “Material Consult” and ask a question.

My personal experience: Since this is a newly launched shopping experience, the product listing is limited or are “similar” matches. It was fun to get inspiration from these rooms even if the exact products weren’t listed but were close.

NEWS: My friends at DesignShop let me know an update is coming soon! The room inspiration images will only include products you can shop going forward. Click, add to cart – yes, please.

Visualize Before You Commit

One of the hardest parts about decorating is taking all those ideas swirling in your head and figuring out how they’ll actually look in your home.

That’s where DesignShop’s Interior Design Visualizer comes in. This tool is basically a crystal ball for your room.

You can choose a pre-designed space and experiment with paint colors and finishes to see exactly how it all comes together. The cool part is that once you find the look you love you simply add the sample to your cart and they will arrive OVERNIGHT!

No more hunting through 10 different tabs for different ideas and to find a local store that carries the brand plus samples.

My Personal Experience: After playing around with the visualization, it isn’t perfect. The room renderings didn’t allow me to test the wallpapers I chose. I did like the tool to try different colors and fabrics on pillows and see them on a couch. It was fast and seamless.

If you want to visualize wall and cabinet paint colors or countertop materials and flooring, it works well on their pre-made rooms. Unfortunately, I found not all options were available to try.

Ideally, you’d want to play with the room you are planning to redecorate. A little birdie told me by the end of February you’ll be able to upload your own room photos to style.

So for now it’s fun to play with, but not perfect as a visualization tool for interior design.

  1. Is Beachglass paint by BEN MOORE #1564? Or do you know another one that is actually #1464 as you have listed above?

I’ve been loving Design Shop, too—and then found your more complete tips and experience.

Love your new modern European sample box. Trying to find an LVP close match for the Edinburgh brown hardwood flooring.

    1. Thank you for finding my typo! That’s what I link out to the color as a safety net. It’s 1564 Beach Glass. Glad you love the Design Shop. I’m buying a new house and love the resource.
