Reveal: Front Porch Summer Ready!

The front porch is lighter and brighter this year! Revealing the new look with ideas for your porch or patio.

Yes, it is front porch and patio season and most of us will be enjoying ours over the long Memorial Day weekend.

Sharing the new lighter look, with some fun ideas for your outdoor living space.

The Front Porch Over the Years

My name Porch Day Dreamer is no accident because I have multiple porches on my home.

However, the front porch is the one that I love and use the most.

It was time for a little update this year to make it lighter and brighter!

Here is the front porch the past two seasons:

It’s a small and narrow porch, but I’ve maximized seating by filling all of the usable space.

The porch can hold 6 comfortably and I use it often to entertain.

Everyone like happy hour out on the porch!

This patio season, I decided to tackle a couple of DIY projects to make the porch lighter and brighter!

Plus invest in a couple of new pieces to bring the front porch into the new decade.

Front Porch Summer Update Ideas

Are you looking for new ideas to makeover your small front porch?

Here are some ideas to think about for your porch or patio:

  1. Have a swing? Paint, upholster it and wrap the chain in rope (tutorial below)
  2. Spray paint metal planters, tables and trays a new finish
  3. Update the color of your outdoor furniture with spray paint
  4. Change out faded outdoor pillows
  5. Add garden stools for overflow seating and to hold flowers or drinks
  6. Increase privacy by potting palms in a row
  7. Create an anchor point of color with an outdoor rug

You’ll see how I used these very ideas in my reveal!

Metal chairs and tables are also a great candidate for spray paint.

This planter and table used to be dark brown and is now white and silver!

Both have held up for 3 seasons, without issue. I used this silver and this white spray paint.

I’ve spray painted the white tray each year to freshen it up and make it brighter.

Then for the swing, I created my own outdoor driftwood finish to make it look lighter.

Just 3 simple projects over a weekend can transform any swing and make it more comfortable and a whole lot prettier!

Next is the dark brown wicker sectional sofa.

EVERYONE has this same dark brown furniture and I wanted to update the finish.

You may not realize outdoor resin wicker furniture can be transformed with spray paint too (tutorial coming next week!).

Spray paint is the cheapest and fastest way to change the look of your outdoor accessories and furniture.

Front Porch Reveal: Lighter and Brighter

I’ve been living with the furniture for years and decided this year I wanted to invest in something new.

Due to the narrow footprint of the front porch, after searching and searching I had a hard time finding furniture that wasn’t too deep.

Looking for outdoor furniture?

Affordable Outdoor Furniture that LOOKS Expensive!

If it was the right size for the space it was really expensive.

One area I was willing to invest in was actual chairs.

I was tired of using ottomans as chairs, so proper chairs were my focus.

First up are the new woven chairs, Mick and I LOVE them!

He feels safe guarding the porch in his new chairs and curls up to enjoy the sun.

I love the fact they are “petite” and fit the space perfectly to add new REAL seating on the front porch.

Plus I love the little white garden stool tucked between them with pink geraniums to make a pretty little vignette.

Don’t you love the patterned blue and white rug?

The former striped one has been repurposed under the fire table on my side patio.

It’s fun to see a new simple blue and white pattern anchoring the space.

Unfortunately, I can only link the black and white version because the blue and white is sold out.

Plus this rug can be HOSED off when dirty.

The MAJOR and inexpensive change to lighten up the look of the porch is the new paint color on the sectional sofa.

It used to be dark brown with tan cushions…can you believe it?

In an afternoon, I spray painted the outdoor resin wicker to this beautiful tan that works perfectly with the driftwood finish on the swing. (tutorial coming next week!).

What I am calling “pandemic sewing” I decided to slipcover the existing tan cushions in white Sunbrella fabric like the swing.

It makes such a statement now and changes the entire look very inexpensively!

I WON’T be sharing a sewing tutorial…they aren’t perfect but are done 🙂

What do you think about the new pillows?

To save a little, I used used several of the outdoor pillows from the last two seasons and still love them.

Then found the most AMAZING textured pillows that look like a Chanel fabric!

I couldn’t believe they were outdoor pillows and tie the colors and rug pattern together for a cohesive look.
